Warmest greetings theatre goers and lovers of social justice and the arts
An exciting and thought provoking piece of activism through performance art is coming to the Majestic Theatre in Malanda in the first two weekends of May.
Most of the women in this show have not acted on stage, but some you may recognise.
The Vagina Monologues will be performed by a group of Tablelands women, a play which was created in the late 90s by American artist Eve Ensler, now know as ‘V’. She interviewed over 200 women about their vaginas, their lives, their experiences as women. This performance of The Vagina Monologues is a collection of spoken word pieces, read by individual women interspersed with some uplifting ensemble performances.
It was called ‘controversial’ late last century. What will twenty first century audiences think? Too confronting? Not confronting enough? Dated? Spot on? Find out for yourself, but be warned, this show contains high level coarse language, adult themes of gender based violence, sex, masturbation, female camaraderie, birth and much more. Young people under 16 will need a parent or guardian. This show is not recommended for children.
We are a grassroots movement of local women, inspired by One Billion Rising, a global movement addressing gender based violence. We are raising money and awareness. Our main fundraiser is The Vagina Monologues. In keeping with the grassroots focus of One Billion Rising all net profits from this fundraiser will go to local organisations who support victim/survivors of gender based violence, namely TSAS (Tablelands Sexual Assault Service).
This movement is not only about fundraising, it is about awareness raising, activism, and changing hearts, minds, systems and behaviours, until the violence stops.
Tablelands Rise, has been able drive this movement since December 2025, through a diverse league of volunteers of time, money, resources, moral support and the kind auspices of Malanda Theatre Company. And hopefully now, with you.
Rise with us, until the violence stops.
In solidarity
