The Atherton Tablelands is the place to be this we The Atherton Tablelands is the place to be this weekend! 🎉 With the annual Malanda Bull Ride and a stack of festivals happening across the region, there’s no shortage of things to do. Malanda Bull Ride hits the showgrounds on Saturday, Torimba Festival gets underway in Ravenshoe, and Emerald Dreaming brings a weekend of music to Emerald Creek. Savannah in the Round is also on in Mareeba from Thursday to Sunday. And there’s plenty more happening across the region too! ℹ️ Event details may change, so please confirm with organisers before heading out.

It’s been a while since we’ve done a local shout-o It’s been a while since we’ve done a local shout-out! Did you know there’s a completely Gluten-Free doughnut shop right here on the Tablelands? 🍩 You definitely don’t need to be gluten free to enjoy it either… these are seriously good! They also do hot cinnamon doughnuts, coffee, and a couple of savoury options, including hot dogs. There are a few places around the Tablelands where There are a few places around the Tablelands where you can try your luck spotting a platypus. Peterson Creek in Yungaburra is one of our favourites. A good place to start is Allumbah Pocket, at the bottom of Penda Street. You can also head to the other side of the bridge near Nick’s Restaurant and try your luck from the viewing platform or under the bridge. Early morning and late afternoon are generally the best times to spot them. Spotting them can take a little patience, so keep quiet, find a spot by the water, and watch for ripples and bubbles on the surface. Another spectacular Tablelands view to add to the Another spectacular Tablelands view to add to the list! From Gillies Lookout, the view stretches across the Mulgrave Valley and surrounding ranges. On a clear day, you can see Bartle Frere, Bellenden Kerr, and Walsh’s Pyramid, while the Mulgrave River winds through the valley below. It’s difficult to capture the scale of it on camera. The track in is suited to a high-clearance 4WD, with a few gates to pass through along the way. 📍 Gillies Lookout, Danbulla National Park 🐄 A quick reminder to leave farm gates as you find them, and close any gates you open behind you so the cattle stay where they’re meant to be. #whatsontablelands #athertontablelands #exploretnq #fnq #tnq
It’s World Cassowary Day 💙❤️ Seeing a southern ca It’s World Cassowary Day 💙❤️ Seeing a southern cassowary in the wild is something pretty special here in Far North Queensland. Not only are they spectacular to look at, but they also play an important role in our rainforests, eating fruit and dispersing the seeds as they move through the forest. World Cassowary Day is also a reminder to look out for them on the roads, never feed them, and give them plenty of space if you’re lucky enough to spot one in the wild. Road strikes remain one of the major threats to their survival in Queensland. Found a sick, injured or orphaned cassowary? Call 1300 130 372 (option 1, then option 2), or report it through the free QWildlife app. Keep your distance and don’t try to move the bird yourself. We recently popped into Tablelands to Tabletop in We recently popped into Tablelands to Tabletop in Mareeba, where the focus is firmly on local produce 🙌 Fresh fruit and veg sourced from Tablelands growers wherever possible, plus plenty of locally made goodies on the shelves. It’s a great spot to fill the basket while supporting producers from around the region. Yet another way to explore the Tablelands – on hor Yet another way to explore the Tablelands – on horseback! 🐴 We spent a couple of hours riding through Ironbark House’s open country and bush tracks. Rachael was fantastic – a great teacher, incredibly knowledgeable, and lovely to chat to along the way. Their Ride the Outback experience is a private two-hour ride through the farm, with chances to spot wildlife and cattle along the way. You don’t have to stay to do the ride, but there’s also an Airbnb on the property if you want to make a little getaway of it. 📍 @ironbarkhouse, Dimbulah
